Dear LET Users,
As many of our UK clients will know, in the last few days we have been targetted by an attack on our UK locations which has caused much more damage than usual, the datacenter was forced to issue a nullroute over our /24 which unlike other single-IP nullroutes effected the majority of our clients. We have worked constantly over the months prior to this email to come up with a solution regarding attacks in the UK, and I would like to go through some of those solutions in this email:
- Increased our capacity allowing us a little more room before a nullroute was required.
- Worked on filtering attacks as best as possible and minimizing the effect of an attack.
- Invested in tools to monitor traffic and detect malicious attacks and their destination/auto-null implemented (once again to minimize the reach of an attack).
Though our efforts paid off in the short term, the simple fact is that these attacks are targetted, for those that are regular visitors of our advertising areas (such as LET/LEB) you will be aware of this. Many UK VPS' providers have been targetted over the past months and many fingers have been pointed, we are happy to say that we are one of the last providers to have withstood the attacks and persist in our attempts to mitigate them.
This email is an update on the information regarding the attack. We want to apologize for the downtime our clients in the UK have been through and to other providers' clients who have gone through the same pain. And last but not least we are informing you that DotVPS' has been bought out by a much larger business that can provide us the support we need to get through these attacks. I (Jack) will still maintain a position for at least 2 weeks to ensure a smooth transition so the day to day running will not change. The implications of this buy out are as follows:
- DotVPS' is hereby rebranded to the name HTTPNode - it is from here on out a brand of the HTTPGroup (some of you may have heard of one of there brands HTTPZoom).
- The support gained from the buy out will allow us to go even further in our attempts to withstand these attacks.
For the days to come everything will still be maintained via the DotVPS' assets (domains, billing, servers) however we will be fully converting to the HTTPNode brand within a short timeframe. As a customer you need do nothing but sit back and await news - your service will continue as usual and any servers currently down will be coming back online shortly. We do not think that any IP changes will be required however if they are required we will inform you prior to the change and provide you with time to adapt. If you have any questions we urge you to open a ticket so that we may assist you asap.
I thank all clients for sticking with us through tough times. I also offer my condolences to the providers who have also been effected by these attacks and wish them good luck in the future.
Thank you for reading,
Jack Sephton
